Other stuff

1. I just started a new painting its a bit larger than the last one, this one is about 3 foot by 4 foot.

2. I just finished a collaborative photography project with two amazing friends of mine. The basic concept was that we first drew straws, whom ever got the short straw had to take the first picture. Then the next shortest straw had to create an image some how influenced and inspired by the previous image, and so on and so forth, until we had created 11 images each. Well its been about a year now and last week I finally finished the last image. The next step is to pimp the shit out of this collective project and show it in as many galleries as we can. I will keep you all informed on the progress in the next blog posting.

3. I still have another clown movie shot, that I haven’t yet had the time to finish editing.

4. I have about 3 other unfinished video projects floating around that I have been neglecting.

5. I have been doing my best to keep creating a new comic strip every week, and I am finding it to be a real challenge to make that and continue making other works of art.

6. I have 3 drawings that I finished inking this past week. I plan to upload them to Deviant Art and make purchasable prints and coasters out of them, but I have not yet had the time to scan and color them.

7. Just as a general survey, I was wondering how many people are actually reading the entire contents of this blog. Could you send me a message or make a comment, just to reassure me that I am not making all this stuff and sending it into the great void of the unknown Internet.

I guess that’s it, until next week.

Comic Con 2008

Well, most of Saturday was spent wandering the vast spaces of the Javits Center in Manhattan. I had never been to a comics expo before, so I did not know what to expect. First of it was massive, hoards of people everywhere, the only way to move through the crowd was to push and shove your way as if were the mosh pit at a crazy rock show. I also, did not realize how many people I would personally know with booths set up. I find these folks truly inspiring. I managed to snap some pics with me and some of this talent that I speak of:

Jeff Zornow:
Me and one of the worlds most incredible horror comics artists, Jeff Zornow, at the 2008 NYC Comic Con. Check out his featured segment in the second season of my television series “ART or something like it!”

Andrea Grant:

Molly Crabapple:
Me and the founder of “Dr. Sketchy’s Anti Art School” & and brilliant artist, Molly Crabapple, at the 2008 NYC Comic Con. Check out her featured segment in the second season of my television series “ART or something like it!”

Mike.A:

I also ran into Russ Lachanse, an amazing artist from the second season of “ART or something like it!” and Bill Plympton, from the first episode of “AOSLI!” season two. Russ was just scoping out the joint, I suspect he might blast the place with a booth of his work next year, be on the look out for a suspicious pancake! Bill had a booth but I ran into him just moments before he went to the theater space to present his new feature film “Idiots and Angles”, a film that is surly going to rock the Tribeca Film Fest this year!

Just to let you all know, All of the images below are available as high quality fine art prints and really cool drink coasters via the Deviant Art website (I just got a set myself and they are very nice quality) , a great gift idea for your loved ones!

One last thing, about a year and a half ago I was commissioned to illustrate a book cover for a teen fantasy story called “PreDestiny“, written by Zenas Cao. I just discovered the book is now available for purchase. Click HERE if you are interested in purchasing this fun little story and the first book cover I was ever commissioned to design and illustrate.

Now for my final thoughts:

How many of you feel like there is never enough time in the day to get things done? I keep feeling this all the time. I have practically given up sleep so that I can get more work finished, and I never seem to get it all done. Maybe this is a sickness or something. I pretty much just work on art every night until I cannot think any more. This usually hits me at around 4AM, then I have to get up at 8AM to get to work (My day job). I have several video projects that I need to finish, but all my motivation seems to be toward these clown comic strips and illustrations. I also have a photographic project I need to finish, but it seems time and mother nature have been plotting against me on that one.

I think my day job (Editing video for a TV station) is effecting my excitement for editing my own video and movie work. I have come to realize that I only get really excited by an idea/ project/ artwork, if it comes from me. I don’t wish this to be true, but the more I live the more I realize that this is the case. I guess this can come across as a bit selfish, but every time I work on a project and it was not my creation or concept, I find it to just be really hard to get motivated to work on it. There have been a few exceptions in the past, but lately, its been rough.

One of the past exceptions has been my band “things outside the skin“. The one person that I have been able to get behind in a collaboration has been my top-knot hairdo sporting, sound mixing obsessed, shingles ridden, chipped toothed, grumpy ass, video game playing brother. He, by the way, has finally finished a mix for the new record. He blogged about it HERE.

Well I guess that’s it for this week, coming next week: New button designs, and more adventures of little Blight the Clown!

Super affordable high quality prints of my latest art work and no EMMY for me this year.

April 7, 2008

So here is the big news this week:

If you all have been paying attention, you might have known that my television series, “ART or something like it!” was nominated for a New York EMMY this year. It did not win. It lost to a show produced for the MSG network. This makes me slightly confused, as the MSG network is a SPORTS network and “ART or something like it!” was nominated in the category for ARTS PROGRAM SEGMENT, so I accept my loss with a puzzled feeling.

The other thing strange that I noticed about the “LOCAL NEW YORK EMMYS” is that other stations like Bravo and TLC had submitted programs. I question this because I was under the impression that Bravo and TLC were NATIONAL networks. It seems to only be fair that if LOCAL stations cannot submit programming on a NATIONAL level, how is it that NATIONAL stations can submit on a LOCAL level? But hey, two NY EMMY nominations in two years ain’t bad for little old me.

Well thats it for my ranting, now on to the artsy shit:

You may notice that there is no “Missing Adventures of Blight the Clown” comic strip this week. I did make a new one. I have it sitting on my computer hard drive, but I am going to wait and post it next week. The reason for this is that I went a little over productive on the drawings this week, and I wanted you all to have a chance to see some other art work. I have so much new shit to post this week, I did not want to over load your little eyeball circuits.

Also, I SLASHED THE PRICES FOR MY HIGH QUALITY SUPER AWESOME DEVIANT ART DIGITAL PRINTS!!!!! You can click on any of the new images below to purchase super affordable amazing archival quality prints printed by the friendly folks at DEVIANT ART!

This is a drawing I did for Troma Entertainment back in 2001. They had contacted me for some early poster art. Although, they did not use it for anything. The movie is finally being released this month, so I thought it would be cool to share the drawing.

As we all know, Feety Bunnies are very common creatures that live most of their life hopping on the edge of volcanoes. This one was captured in my drawing just after he got some shiny new glasses and a manny-peddy.
