5 ideas for artistic inspiration.

June 17, 2009

1. Work in a day job that you hate so much it motivates you to do more, faster and better, so you can get the hell out.

2. People watch in public spaces such as parks, trains, malls, or just walking down the sidewalk. Most people are even more strange and awkward then most minds can even imagine.

3. Get into passionate arguments with everyone you know, eventually pushing them all away, so that you can find the center to your own personal misery, and draw from its pain.

4. Pretend you are a mad scientist, and begin to experiment with everything and everyone, and eventually something creative will come out of it.

5. Go POOP, for some random and strange reason, I get many light bulb popping ideas flashing into my brain as I drop the kids off in the pool.

CLOWNLAND – A CLOWN-NOIR COMIC STRIP, Another LIFE STORY, and a whole bunch of T.O.T.S. live show dates!

December 8, 2008

Well, howdy doo folks,

It’s been a while since the last posting. I have been hard at work drawing my fingers to the bone and redesigning parts of the Blight Productions website. In this super sassy posting, I am premiering a new clown-noir comic strip called, “CLOWNLAND“. It’s about a bunch of characters that exist in a world where everyone is a clown, and not everything is funny. I have also posted another one of my “LIFE STORIES” a webcomic that is some how in some way loosely based on events that occur in my life. I am also posting the next few show dates for my band, “THINGS OUTSIDE THE SKIN.” So be sure to read this blog all the way to the end, then forward the link to all your friends, and maybe even a few of you enemy’s.

:::NEWS:::

In addition to drawing my fingers to the bone over the last few weeks, I have been updating the website like crazy and learning a few new little web tools. I updated the webcomics section of my site, so that it is a bit more organized and easier to navigate. And I redesigned the front page to the website to integrate a new tool that I discovered called “Friend Feed”, it is a pretty badass little widget that allows you to redirect all of your web activities, like blog posting, twittering, facebook, myspace, digg, youtube and a whole bunch more into one feed embedded onto your site, so that there is an always updated and active amount of interesting content on you website. Check the tool out here: http://friendfeed.com/. I have also been experimenting with a cool little tool called, “MINGGL”, this is a cool little toolbar plugin for your web browser, that allows you to manage all of you social networks at the same time.  Keep an eye on all the active status messages and twitters in one feed, as well as the ability to post your own status message to twitter, facebook, and myspace at the same time. It is a pretty amazing time saver. Check it out here: http://www.minggl.com/ . I have also posted my Holiday classic movie, “A CLOWN CAROL – The Marley Murder Mystery” on the website “Funny or Die” please check it out and vote my movie FUNNY to keep it active, also repost it to your facebook and myspace, share it with your friends and tell them to vote it FUNNY.  Click here to watch and vote: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/15148744a7/a-clown-carol-the-marley-murder-mystery-from-blightproductions

Blight is back in his 22nd all new Missing Adventure, Video and Pics from Blight the Clown’s latest TOTS performance, and fancy new Blight Productions T Shirts!

November 3, 2008

Greetings and salutations Earthlings,

Blight the Clown is back with a real true life story in an all new full color adventure featuring, “Chvad the Thug”.  Check out my latest, “H.P. Lovecraft” inspired drawing.  Peruse through all the pictures and video my friendly “T.O.T.S” fans made during last weeks Halloween spooktacular.  And swing by the fancy new online shop I set up, so you can buy you favorite full color Blight Productions T-Shirts for less than 20 bucks a pop!

::NEW COMIC STRIP::

Please note, this weeks Blight the Clown comic strip is based 100% on a real conversation I had with my brother.

(Click here for the comic archive)

Yes folk’s, just before last weeks Halloween spooktacular, Chvad had asked me if I thought it would be cool and funny to put some cat shit into the candy bags I passed out to the audience during the show.  The idea being some bags would have just candy, some would have a voucher for a free TOTS CD, some would have a voucher for a free crappy horror movie, and some would have CAT SHIT! His idea being that some would be TRICKS and some would be treats.

I only wish at that moment I could of reached through the phone and pied him in the face for real.  With that being one of the WORST ideas I had ever heard!  Do not worry folks, I made the candy bags myself and filled them with only good things!

:::NOTES FROM THE 10/29/08 HALLOWEEN SHOW:::

A good amount of people came out to the last show.  It was really damn fun.  A bunch of amazing photographers and videographers came out to document the night.  Below are a few of the images followed by links to their perspective online galleries with more photos from the night.

Check out the video that Elias of Biff Juggernaut Productions shot and edited for us from that night:

I am a little bummed that you can barely hear my bass in the audio mix, but at least this gives you an idea of the insanity that comes with a live TOTS show.

Brick Throwin’ Bastards In Blight’s NEW Comic Strip And Pretty Soon I Am Gonna Blow Up A Moose!

September 28, 2008

Howdy, three times, in a pumpkin patch,

I wrote a little poem for you:

“Ode to a pickle tree”

Bing bong boing,
Someone flip a coin,
I broke a slippery bone,
Last night on the phone,
Imply what you will,
Please delay the kill,
Then read the latest strip,
So I can take you on a trip.

Here it is, the bomb diggity, the shiznat, the craziest clown there ever was…

:::NEWS:::

Just to give my loyal friends and fans the heads up, my good friend Barry Mitchell (Scroogie the Clown from “A CLOWN CAROL”, everyone from “Intelligent Design-The Music Video” and formerly “The Polka Guy” from ABC World News Now) and I have collaborated again on a new video featuring everyone’s (least) favorite “politician”, Sarah Palin.  I am working on the post-production and animation as fast as I can so I can bring it to you as soon as possible.  I would like to get it to you in time for the vice presidential debate on Thursday, but I am not 100% sure that is realistic, but I will try.  That being said, you may receive a mid-week blog update from Blight Productions if it happens.

:::FUN FOUND VIDEO:::

In the spirit of helping promote the art community, here is a trailer for my friend Mario’s (AKA. MaRs Attack!!!) newest film.  Enjoy!

:::OTHER OTHER NEWS:::

As most of you know, promotion is the most difficult part of being an artist.  I can make stuff all day long, but if no one ever sees it, what’s the point, other than a bit of therapy for the soul.  The challenge as an artist is to make things that people are interested in.  I am not the best mind reader in the world, I have no idea what the world is interested in, so I make things that interest me and hope that it is enough.  I like to think that if I am interested in it, that someone else somewhere else in this great big ball of a planet might find it interesting as well.

In this current age of digital revolution, there are half a million ways to promote your work.  The key is to tap into the right ones.  I really have no idea what the right ones are, so I have tried my best to make some kind of connection with all the networking tools I have been able to access.   The best most reliable connection seems to be a direct email list, but I don’t like to send emails to folks that are not interested in my work; but how are they going to become interested in my work if they have never seen it?

Social networking.  I have tried to make profiles on every damn social networking site that seems worthwhile.  Although, it’s rather hard to figure out what sites are worthwhile and what sites are not.  For links to my various profiles on social networks please click here: BLIGHT PRODUCTIONS SOCIAL NETWORKS.

But I still believe that direct email is the best way to directly keep you informed, so if you are not signed up to the email list, or you know of a friend you think might be interested, please visit the site here :BLIGHT PRODUCTIONS, or send your friends a link to the site: http://www.blightproductions.com.  I got some really cool stuff in the works, so stay tuned.

Chvad the thug busts some caps in comic 13, Bitter middle age guy gets pissed for the first time, and more strange adventures in the land of Second Life

July 7, 2008

So as you all know, or maybe you don’t know, Blight the Clown is the bass player in the super funky crazy industrial circus swamp rock band, “Things Outside The Skin.” Some of you that have been following “The Missing Adventures of Blight the Clown”, may have been wondering when the singer/screaming bastard, “Chvad S.B.” of “T.O.T.S.”, would be entering the wonderful world of Blight the Clowns silly comic. Well, here it is. The debut of “Chvad the Thug” in:

(Click here for the comic archive)

Something different:
I am sure you all remember my good friend (super crazy polka guy and star of “A CLOWN CAROL”) Barry Mitchell, well for all the years I have know him, I have been begging him to create a character and comedy skit based on his true self. The real thing is always funny. He came close to it in his performance of Scroogie the Clown in my little clown movie, but he nails is on the head in his latest Youtube video shenanigans:

-Bitter Middle Age Guy: On the Air-

For more Barry Mitchell check out his website here: http://www.barryfunny.com/

In other news:

The human psyche is a strange creature. There is this interesting social experiment going on right now, created by a company called Linden Labs. This social experiment takes the form of an online virtual world called Second Life. I have been experimenting with this “game” for a little while now trying to find interesting ways to utilize the technology for promoting my art and possible creating some legitimate form of virtual art. As you know, I have several ongoing projects in Second Life. One being a virtual art gallery for promoting my real world art (which has actually led to some real sales), I have created “T.O.T.S. Land”, a virtual head quarters for my band, and most recently, I have been working on a horror/ swamp themed sim. The Swamp sim is the largest project I have attempted in Second Life. It is basically a land to explore with lots of creepy shit. I will just list off several of the features I have created in this world: A Haunted Hotel, several shooting gallery games, pirate boat battles, swamp shacks, caves, a swamp boggin’ off-road racing game, and a virtual “outdoor” movie theater, showcasing classic horror movies. I tell you all this so you get a basis for how I use this game, as basically another tool to create art.

The reason I called this “game” a social experiment is because there are many people around the world who play this game on an entirely different level. The economy in this “game” is based on real money exchange, meaning you buy something in the game, you are spending real money. Someone gives you money in the game, you can cash it out for real money. There are some folks that have full time businesses based in this game, they actually make enough money “playing” this game that they have no need for real day jobs. Lets take this “game” a little deeper.

Over the past few months, I have gotten to know another artist in Second Life named “Eifachfilm Vacirca.” He is a really interesting fella from Switzerland. I got to know him while I was promoting my “Clown Carol” movie, he enjoyed the movie and contacted me. He has done some really amazing artistic things in the game, mostly using the medium of the game itself to create art. He has also done some cool stuff promoting film and video to the European audience (including my movie). Check out his website here: http://d-oo-b.cc. Recently, he let some student film makers come into his house and interview him about his experience with this “game” called Second Life. This is his story:
